खबाइ (Khobai)

Summary:

Khobai is a basket traps made of bamboo strips used to keep the caught fishes while fishing. It is warp and weft with long bamboo strips. Usually the shape of Khobai is like an earthen pot.

Cultural Narrative:

Fishing is one of the major occupations of the Bodo people. Bodo women enjoy fishing with traditional fishing equipment such as Zekhai and Khobai. While fishing, Bodo women tie Khobai around their waist to keep the caught fish. Women usually fish in small rivers and paddy fields while men go for bigger fish in bigger rivers. Bodo men use fishing equipments like Polo, Je, Kokha, Belsa, Sen etc. to make their fishing.
