खफ्रि (Khophri)

Khophri is a type of umbrella made of bamboo and plastic. It is worn on the head to shield it from the sun and rain while going to work, especially in the paddy fields.
Cultural Narrative: 

Khophri is one of the items used by the Bodo community during cultivation. The main purpose of the Khophri is to use as a hat to protect and shield from heat and rain. The Khophri is made with bamboo and leaves. It measures from the head till shoulder with required length, so that it protects the head and the shoulder. Firstly bamboo are split into small  sticks and base of the Khophri is made  and the measurement of the head is taken to form like a hat and gradually it is knotted till the shoulder long which is approximately 2.5-3 ft. long and breath is 2- 2.5 ft. On the top of the base of the Khophri is covered with areca nut leaves, tokhou leaves or other leaves like batha which are usually grown in the river side. The Khophri is double layered with those leaves. There are two types of Khophri in bodo community. The main Khophri is called gangjema Khophri this is made with thal leave, the length of the Khophri is from the head till the shoulder.
