थना (Thona)

थना (Thona) it is a type of bowl made with banana pseudostem leaf sheaths, the pseudostem of banana is cut into desirable length which is then split and each of the leaf sheaths of pseudostem are removed carefully to find the sheath which is clean and moderate enough to make the bowl. The preferred pseudostem for the preparation is seeded banana/ wild bananas. It has a great cultural significance, in the festivals and village feast it is used as a cup to hold wine, rice beer and also as a bowl to hold curry, the use of थना as a bowl is considered to be good for health. It is also used in various rituals for offering prayers to God and Deities. The size of the displayed थना is 20 cm in length and 11 cm width.
