थनाखं (Thonakhong)

थनाखं(Thonakhong) is a plate made from pseudostem leaf sheaths of banana. The pseudostem of banana is cut into desirable length, the leaf sheaths of banana is removed carefully, one pseudostem of banana consist of 20-25 tightly wrapped leaf sheaths and from those wrapped leaf sheaths 10-12 leaf sheaths can be used a dish plate,after removing the sheaths ,when it is cut into required dish sizes it can produced upto 40-50 plates. The leaf sheaths are then washed with water. It also serves various purposes, one of its important uses is, during family functions, marriages and other community feasts, the leaf sheaths are stitched together to form the shape of mat to keep the steam rice after its cooked, and also other food items. It is considered to have a good impact on health. The size of the थनाखं displayed in the picture is length- 37 cm width - 18 cm.
