The Bodo and Dimasa Heritage Digital Archive developed from initial conversations among the collaborators at the 2020 North East Indian Linguistics Society (NEILS) Conference. Our goal was to develop a free and openly accessible community-based digital archive for the Bodo and Dimasa communities, as a resource that could contribute to the preservation and revitalization of the Bodo and Dimasa languages and cultures. We chose to use the Mukurtu platform because it was specifically designed for Indigenous heritage, and it is free and open access. This archive is a pioneer among community-based digital archives in India.
In response to requests from members of other Indigenous communities in India, especially in the Northeast, we have offered numerous training workshops on developing community-based digital archives. We have also held presentations and written publications.
This project is being developed under a Memorandum of Understanding among the Nativers' Institute of Bodology, the Dimasa Scholars' League, Assam University Silchar, and the University of North Texas Department of Anthropology, and in collaboration with the Centre for Linguistics and Cultural Studies, CIT Kokrajhar.
