Khaudi ( or cowrie shell) is treated as one of the sacred object and belief to be a God of ocean or sea in Dimasa community. It has a deep historical, cultural and ritual significance and used in different ritual practices and rites such as shamanaiba (divination-healing ritual), Phara khoba ( Prayer offer to Shani deity), Subungsaomane hah-bariba (seeking of land ritual for funeral rites) and making amulet for babies to protect from evil eye or evil spirit. According to religious belief among the Dimasas, when the evil eye or evil spirit tried to harm or attack the baby, they return back by looking cowrie shell tied around the waist of a baby.
