Nana Thiliba (Dembra region)
Nana Thiliba is a traditional Dimasa lullaby sung by mothers to soothe their children to sleep. While the purpose of the lullaby remains the same across Dimasa communities, the lyrical lines often vary from region to region depending on local traditions. One such version is from the Dembra region, where a mother gently sings to her child while putting them to sleep.
Nana Thiliba reflects an important aspect of Dimasa domestic and cultural life. The lullaby expresses the affection and care of a mother for her child and forms part of everyday practices within the household. Such songs are traditionally passed down orally from one generation to another, with mothers and elder women playing a key role in preserving and transmitting them. Beyond its function of putting the child to sleep, the lullaby represents a form of cultural expression through which emotions, language, and traditions are maintained within the community.
