Summary
Gambari Khamplai is a wooden plate tool made from Gambari tree. In the Bodo wedding, the bride is made to stand on the Gambari Khamplai and mother or sister of the groom sprinkle holy water and wash her feet with holy water before entering groom’s house.
Rice transplantation is a common practice among the Bodo people. Before transplantation, the seedling is uprooted from the ground and it is mostly done by women.
Khwthia Rwganai or carrying of rice seedlings for transplantation. The person working in the field is Ms. Bhagyabati Kachari of Bhergaon near Tangla under Udalguri district. She is an Indian boxer and helps her parents in the field to inspire other girls.
Hatha is a wooden container of rice and curry made during a Hathasuni/Hathaseni haba (traditional Bodo wedding), where the bride carries the rice and curry and serves a small portion to the groom and the villagers present at the wedding ceremony.
Uprooting of rice seedling is done manually. It is usually done on dry ground, but sometimes it is done on wet land as well. The uprooted seedling is fastened to make one bundle called "akhase" and then carried to the field ready for transplantation.
Rice transplantation is a common practice among the Bodo people. Rice is the most widely cultivated crop and the family without rice field is still considered as poor. Rice cultivation is largely dependent on monsoon rain and sometimes appears uncertain.
Ploughing by bullocks was a common practice of the Bodos a decade or two ago. Nowadays this practice is fast losing due to mechanization of farming. It is replaced by a tractor and most farmers hire it on hourly and often considered as cheaper.
