लाफा (Lapha)

Lapa is a kind of spinach especially available during the winter season. It is most commonly eaten by Bodo people. It is also very healthy and delicious.

Lapha is known as Chinese mellow or cluster mellow in English and its scientific name is Malva verticillate, a species of the genus Malva in the family of Malvaceae found in East Asia. There are many greens during winter but lapha is one of the most beloved and healthiest leafy vegetables of the Bodo. It is the gift of winter. Lapha is served and cooked standalone as Lapha mwidru by just boiling it without any oil. It is cooked along with fish adding some souring agent to make the curry sour as lapha has a plain taste of its own.
